“Hi Krishna! What a surprise! You are a metamorphosed Indian, almost Yankee,” said Krishna’s bosom friend Ram. “Looks like your team’s visit to the USA was a grand success.”

 

“At a personal level, yes,” Krishna said. “You remember before leaving for the US trip, I was so very diffident and wanted to drop out of the team because the mission was full of new technologies that had baffled me. But thanks to your transformational ‘sermon’ on the concept of 'rewiring of the brain' by perusing wider topics, expanding my network and considering myself a ‘student for life’, my mindset changed completely. I started learning about new topics with resources on the internet and also built up friendly relations with the team members including the leader, far junior to me. My family relations also became joyful and more cordial. Ram, you are the Guru of Gurus for me.”

 

“My friend! Whatever I might have told you was a spontaneous outcome of my love and affection for you. After all, we have been bosom friends for years,” Ram said with a smile. “I am happy my thoughts evoked such a constructive response. You remember, our classmates had nicknamed me 'Masterji'  because of my varied interests and writing and talking in a ‘teaching’ if not preaching mode?” 

 

“A saying that a ‘teacher is more an awakener than a mere lecturer’ had a tremendous impact on my mind,” Ram continued. “I tried to practice that while working as a teacher in a night school to support my university education as my parents were poor. I was keen to pursue teaching as a career, but I got a job through campus interviews with a blue chip company and have been stuck in the corporate groove ever since. But, your experience shows that my old habit and interest are alive.”

 

“Alive and working miracles!” Krishna said. “I have also taken to reading on wider subjects. I’m tempted to quote a saying that ‘teaching is a profession that creates all other professions’. And, in our context, Stephen Hawking’s words ‘if you look behind every exceptional person, there is an exceptional teacher’ prove so true.”

 

“How very farsighted words of the great scientist. It is perhaps the right time for both of us to take to teaching, to first try to become exceptional teachers and then create exceptional leaders who can elevate the society and nation.”

 

“I happened to read two very illuminating books Sapiens and Homo Deus by Yuval Noah Harari. Even Bill Gates has recommended them. The first one traces the human progress from neanderthal to the present dramatic revolution. The second one is devoted to painting a fascinating as well as frightening future of mankind. It is evident from the first book that the tremendous progress was possible because of exceptional leaders and thinkers, creations of  - in Hawkings’ words - some superb teachers.”

 

“So let’s meet again and give a serious thought to becoming teachers, if not full time at least guest lecturers”. 

 

“You are in two minds, but I have already decided to sell a part of my farm at my native place and start an Academy for Earth, Oceans and Space Studies (AEOSS.) As you know, Eos is the Greek goddess of dawn. Through this academy, I am keen to elevate - usher in the dawn - over the economically, socially and even legally backward place to help it find its place in the ‘fantastic future’ by teaching using new knowledge resources  like  AR-VR—Cloud Computing—Google Glass—Second life—Metaverse —Biometric Eye Catching—Game-based learning, and the like.”

 

“OMG Krishna! That’s such a noble idea. You can count on my full and active support. But, what about your present job and the 3D project for which your company sent you to the US. Are you not going to return the debt?”

 

“The company itself has solved that dilemma. They are winding up the new project because of losses due to pandemic lockdowns and, perhaps, due to serious disputes in the family. I may be retrenched along with others or given some other trivial job. I don’t care anymore. Now, I am dedicated to the mission TEACHING, i.e.“Teachers Enhance Assets, Capabilities, Honour and Immensify Nobility and Glory”.
